
Gibbons in a town located north east of Edmonton in Alberta. The town was given it’s name to recognize William R. Gibbons, one of the first settlers in the town. He was also largely responsible for the merger of two small towns that created Gibbons. The town is located on the Sturgeon River, which flows into the North Saskatchewan.
According to the last census (2006) the town had approximately 2650 citizens in 1000 homes, which represents a small decrease from the previous census (0.5%). Gibbons has a land area of 6.46 square kilometers.
There are three main schools in the area, Landing Trail Elementary, Gibbons Elementary and Junior High, and the Sturgeon Learning Centre which helps people with high school and adult classes.


Gibbons has been an agriculture area and supplier of resources for the surrounding communities for a long time. Somewhere in the five years between 1889 and 1894, Gibbons was settled. In 1914, the train link from Edmonton to the town of Gibbons.
Community development really started to blossom in 1915. The usual trappings of a growing community emerged as the amount of people settling in Gibbons began to grow. In 1919, a grain elevator came to the community along the train line. In 1977 Gibbons officially become known as a town.
