
Legal (Lee-Gal) is a small community in the Sturgeon County area of Alberta. It’s about 42 km north of the city of Edmonton. It was originally settled by the local francophone population and is know knows for the french murals around the town. It’s also known as the place where NHL player Kyle Chipchura learned to play hockey.
It is home to a small french school that teaches both elementary and junior high students. It used to house an old church during it original years. According to a 2006 census, the local population was 1,192.




Legal is quickly becoming a more noticed community with it’s goal to become increasing noticed on the Alberta scene. Being a small town ideal for raising families with it’s country charm, it also is a place where many economic advantages exists, and some have yet to be taken. The last couple of years have seen the community grow is both it’s residential population as well as a strong business community.
People coming into Legal are welcomed by the french murals which dot the town. Being very proud of it’s history, the population of Legal work very hard to display it in a positive fashion. Summer tourists to the area have the chance to experience amazingly fresh french bread which bakes daily at local bakeries using a working open oven or a le four a’ pain as it is known in french.
A new centre for the community was recently built and serves as a place to hold events as well as functions. There is an annual festival called the "Fete an VIllage" that takes place during the last weekend of the month of July. It’s a great example of the proud heritage that Legal is proud to display.
